Ok, I'll just ask, maybe one of the people from cheezburger will be somehow reached by my desperate cry for help and come to the rescue :D
I really can't figure out how it works, posting LOLs and stuff: I read all the FAQ but still…
For instance: they say that they evaluate the LOLs for making the first page also on the basis of the votes they have/have received, but I see some of them in the first page that have close to zero votes. Also there are some that turn out horrible and get almost only down votes.
I don't understand how you make the banner appear under the picture: for some sections it works by submitting a picture directly through the section (and when it does it may also cut the caption with the banner), for others it doesn't.
There's many more of the little stuff, but they really don't seem important enough to hold up a discussion about it. Although, it would be nice to have someone from cb to answer all of them…

I think I may have mentioned this before, but we're not directly involved with Cheezburger, so we wouldn't know about any of that. Sorry!

My advice? Check out tumblr. They're way cooler.

Hey again.

I guess I can't be much more helpful than I was before. This matter isn't really something even the administrators on Know Your Meme have control over.

It sounds like there might be an algorithm that determines what posts end up on the first page. I think Know Your Meme's first page posts are posted by the administrators based on what's trending, what article of note has just been confirmed by moderation and administration, and other articles that are being researched currently.

Perhaps the administration and moderation of Cheezburger hand-pick some they decide to put on the first page along with those that get on there with high scores (kinda like college admissions.)

So on pure speculation, I'd say it's an algorithm based partly on score or the administration choose images based partly on score.

Yes, I've been told cb and kym are 2 different things. But I thought maybe users cross over, and maybe I couls find someone who knew the answer to my questions.
As they say, you can't blame a girl for trying :D
I don't get how tumblr is related to the whole thing…

It's not, I just find it more entertaining than Cheezburger. Think of it as a personal recommendation BD

Hi guys, I'm looking for an animated gif I remember, picturing a guy on the ground (that you don't really see) and another one right foreground beating the crap put of him.
Can anyone help me find it?
Thanks :)

Not a new member, so I don't know if this'll get answered or not, but I've always wondered: why are there two different colored (one blue and one red) NSFW image spoilers?

They're for even and odd image numbers.
Blue being even, red is odd

I just joined few minutes back, can anybody advise me on which topics i can create new threads and in general topics what all topics are included. Help me out, Thanks in advance!

Well, the general rule of thumb is this:
If its for fun, it's Just for Fun
If its meme related, it's Research.
If its site related, go there.
EDIT~ pretty much anything else is thrown into general

When making a thread, make sure:
It's not a duplicate thread (one on the topic exists)
If its NSFW (not safe for the general public) that it says so
No links to Porn or Gore.
And that its interesting, or no one will like it and you'll be sad.

Hey all, I have to ask -- is one only able to give karma (or negative karma) after a certain number of comments/posts have been reached? I've thumbsed-up twenty or so images and comments, but my "karma given" on my profile hasn't changed.

Alternatively, could my profile just not be updating with it? Or is the karma I give not recognized until I'm given karma in turn?

Thanks in advance if anyone can answer.

Karma given on your profile only refers to karma given in forum posts, not on images or comments.

The servers take a while to update those karma totals, as well as your activity. To force it to update, all you have to do is click Edit Your Profile, then Submit (save) without changing anything.

I accidentally downvoted a picture I liked, and it won't let me upvote it. How do I fix this?

You can't at this point in time.

Wow, I read through every comment in the thread so far and it turns out the very last one is exactly the same thing I came here for. Would love to see that functionality added. It's especially easy on the iPad and such to hit the wrong icon

That's how I accidentally downvoted a picture.

How do I find out who's following me? Two trolls keep on following me & down-voting my posts for no reason.

If you go on your profile, you can see who is following you. You can't find out who is downvoting you I'm pretty sure however.

How is called this phenomenon or meme? It looks like 2 or more pictures are interacting.
It's simple on tumblr but this happens sometime and unintentional on other platforms like google, too.

Since my previous question wasn't answered, how many posts do you need for conversationalist?

You need either 1000 comments or 1000 forum posts.

So what I need to put in the middle of the exclamation marks to show a picture is the pic's url, right? I can't just get a pic from my laptop? 'cause keeping url's of pics sounds hard to do. not to mention that I already have some reaction images stocked up in my pc.

@Onion Syrup
You can upload the images you want to either Imgur (or any other photo sharing site) or to your profile.
Then, when you have uploaded them, just copy the link, ending in .png .jpg or an other image format.

BTW:
When you have a large image, it's better to put those in the code, so you can change the size of it.

Ok, I'd be really grateful if someone can show me a gif maker that has no watermarks. One of those standard, simple to use ones that can make gifs from YouTube videos. Sorry if someone has asked before, but I haven't found a question like this as far as I'm concerned.

@Gravity Man
I'm not sure if this forum is dedicated to answering those kind of questions but I'll bite. As a website, KYM is known to be a pretty reliable place to know a thing or two about memes for those interested in the phenomena. Google a meme, KYM should be somewhere there at the first page, usually just behind Wikipedia. KYM's community though is a relatively tiny community so not a lot has heard of it from what I've seen on the outerwebs. The way I see it is that it's a bunch of pretty smart individuals that love to collect (there aren't a lot of creatives from what I observed) fan art that are often sourced and cited, research on the origins of memes, and keep up on the current events of the multiple subcultures and (in)famous websites of the whole internet.

Gravity Man wrote:

What does the rest of the Internet think of KYM?

I think there was a thread about it a while ago, but let me sum it up. There are two main attitudes towards us, the ones who like us for our knowledge of memes, and use the site to help understand more about viral media, and then there are those who hate us and think we're responsible for profiting and forcing memes, case in point Operation Stop Their Scheme. The operation wasn't very popular, however, and ended up failing miserably, so take that as you will.

@Gemma
I don't know a real fix for that, had that too with some threads. Maybe you could try subscribing, then de-subscribing again.

@Aishamcan
When an image gets too large, it automatically resizes.
What you could do with large images to give them a size you want is use either:

This gives you the option to make it the height you want. Works with the width too.
Or use

This gives you the same option as the previous one, but it can also link to the full sized image, by clicking on it.

@aishamcan:

Gif's are automatically rescaled when posted on the forum, but be careful with your profile description and image descriptions.

Gifs and other image uploads are restricted to 8mb's, but in the onboard compression has sqeezed down a 12mb gif for me in the past.

Not a new member but I got a question. It's possibly more on meme research but then again maybe not. I can't help but notice there isn't an article for awesomesauce. Why?

I think it originated from the internet, and I've been hearing it around a lot.
