KYM? Are your sponsors actually directly monitoring your front page so closely and regularly, and under such draconian terms, that they will see a drawing of a bong on it and instantly drop you? Blink twice if you need help.
Not sure but seems like very select sites/publications have been able to successfully pull that off. All I can say for sure is the internet has become increasingly censored over the last few years due to the ridiculous demands of advertisers and the companies that serve them to sites, so we aren't happy about it either but we have to play the game … sorry you guys, I hate it too.
I wish but most sites need them to survive, same for us, unfortunately. The real solution would be to get it through their thick skulls that people aren't gonna associate your brand with UGC, but that's unlikely to happen.
If anyone is curious to learn more about this BS, this is a pretty good article that goes into detail on some of the advertiser shit every site like us is dealing with.
Admittedly, I've never participated in anything crowd funding, Patreon or whatnot. It just seems unsecure. Though, I think that if this site were to start taking user donations to stay afloat and on a mission, I'd have to change positions on that. After all this time it kind of feels like my internet home, though I fear there is poisonous mold creeping through the moist drywall.
This mentions sentiment analysis algorithms. Are they actually hand-reviewing sites for things like drawings of bongs though as opposed to just running automated scans of text?
didnt kym had some merchandise store or something like that?
the other option ican think of is promotote adblocks so if no one see any ads, advertisers get fuck all money, but they still pay the site cause the ppl in charge barely know what 'an internet' is….
i know 99% of internet will die but the only reason we are he is because an asteroid killed the dinosaurs,
just a matter of time for forums and blogs to return after advertisers leave cause everybody adblocks
that said, I do remember youtube having an ai to scan thumbnails for metrics related to demonetization. If advertisers use something like that, this article (nor any others) don't seem to mention it.
The brands do seem to be darn sure about people not liking products if the ad is next to something bad, though… There's one report about that here, though it costs $50 so I can only look at places reporting on it, and then there's a harris+doubleverify report that's not anywhere and just says to contact the people who ran the poll.
